OMD - Maid of Orleans (The Waltz Joan of Arc) 1982 (with Julia Tobin as Jeanne d'Arc) If Joan of Arc Had a heart Would she give it as a gift To such as me Who longs to see How an angel ought to be Had dreams to give Her heart away Like an orphan along the way She cared so much She offered up Her body to the grave

"The Battle of New Orleans" is the name of a song written by Jimmie Driftwood. The song details the 1815 Battle of New Orleans from the perspective of an American fighting alongside Andrew Jackson against British forces, but the tone is lighthearted. It has been recorded by many artists, but the one most often associated with this song is Johnny Horton. His version, released as a single in 1959, topped the Billboard Hot 100.

A painful irony of post-Katrina New Orleans is how few people throughout the country understand the extent of what has happened to the city. Many people do not realize that, nearly 10 months later, things are not back to normal in New Orleans. As America's attention fades from Hurricane Katrina's impact, a disabled New Orleans continues to struggle for survival. In many respects, New Orleans is alive and kicking. People are moving home, schools are opening, cultural activities have returned and, in some neighborhoods, life has a sense of near normalcy; however, all it takes is a short drive outside of the French Quarter or Uptown to witness extensive loss and devastation. The magnitude of flooding was incomprehensible and New Orleans still has many challenges to overcome. The only way to really get a sense of the magnitude of the post-Katrina destruction is to physically walk or drive through the affected areas. With this in mind, NOVAC presents The Drive. The Drive provides a raw visual and narrated tour through four of the most devastated neighborhoods in New Orleans and is supported with extensive footage, maps, interviews, digital imagery, and an original musical score by Emmy nominated composer, Gil Talmi. Through this community-based documentary project, we present stories from a local point-of-view. We hope this effort will garner continued support for the rebuilding of a great American city.

Southern Mississippi receiver DeAndre Brown fractured his lower left leg and was taken to the hospital during the first quarter of Sunday nights New Orleans Bowl against Troy. Only minutes after his 67th reception of the season set a school record, Browns leg gave out unnaturally as he landed in the end zone during a long incompletion. The defender on the play, Tavares Williams, put his hands on his head and then gestured for help when he turned and saw Brown holding his leg, which dangled from the shin. Brown writhed in pain as trainers raced to his side. He was placed on a stretcher and lifted onto a cart. He then sat up, receiving applause, as the cart headed into the tunnel in the Louisiana Superdome. Southern Miss spokesman Jack Duggan said the injury was a lower leg fracture but could not immediately provide details on the severity. Brown, a freshman, was a prized recruit last year and quickly became the Golden Eagles leading receiver, finishing the regular season with 66 catches for 1,108 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Slide show based upon "The City of New Orleans", Willie Nelson rendition. The City of New Orleans - Lyrics Ridin' on the City of New Orleans Illinois Central, Monday mornin' rail Fifteen cars and fifteen restless riders Three conductors and twenty-five sacks of mail All along the south-bound odyssey The train pulls out at Kankakee And rolls along past houses, farms and fields Passin' trains that have no names And freight yards full of old black men And the grave-yards of the rusted automobiles Good morning America, how are you? Say don't you know me, I'm your native son I'm the train they call the City of New Orleans And I'll be gone five-hundred miles when the day is done Dealin' cards with the old men in the club car Penny a point ain't no one keepin' score Pass the paper bag that holds the bottle Feel the wheels grumblin' 'neath the floor And the sons of Pullman porters, and the sons of engineers Ride their father's magic carpet made of steel Mothers with their babes asleep, rockin' to the gentle beat And the rhythm of the rails is all they feel Night time on the City of New Orleans Changin' cars in Memphis, Tennessee Halfway home, we'll be there by mornin' Thru the Mississippi darkness rollin' down to the sea But all the towns and people seem to fade into a bad dream And the steel rails still ain't heard the news The conductor sings his songs again The passengers will please refrain This train has got the disappearin' railroad blues.
